House Robbery in Sherwood: Suspects Flee After Encounter with Homeowner
Crime

In the early hours of 14 March, a house robbery occurred on Nahoon Street, Sherwood, when three suspects gained entry to a property by jumping over the back boundary wall. The suspects proceeded to the back sliding door, which lacked a security gate, and forcibly gained entry by smashing the glass.
The noise alerted the homeowner who woke up and immediately went to investigate the disturbance. Upon entering the room, he was confronted by two suspects inside his home while a third remained outside. The suspects reacted by throwing a glass bottle at him before attempting to flee. In an effort to scare them off, the client, carrying a blank firearm, fired a shot, prompting the suspects to flee the scene.
The homeowner pursued the suspects on foot while South African Police Services (SAPS) were en route. Atlas Security response officer Bravo 31 arrived at the scene at 01:45, followed shortly by SAPS. The alarm system had activated, which contributed to waking up the homeowner in time to respond.
SAPS officers on site took statements from the clients and proceeded to open a case. The Atlas Security response team was excused from the scene after ensuring the safety of the homeowners and providing the necessary support.
Atlas Security's Recommendations for Homeowners:
- Ensure All Entry Points Are Secure: Install security gates on all doors, including sliding doors, to prevent easy access.
- Maintain Clear Visibility: Keep your property's surroundings well-lit and clear of obstructions that could serve as hiding spots for intruders.
- Install a Reliable Alarm System: A functional alarm system can deter potential intruders and alert you and security services promptly in case of a breach.
- Be Cautious When Investigating Disturbances: If you suspect a break-in, avoid direct confrontation. Instead, contact your security provider or SAPS immediately.
- Stay Connected with Your Security Provider: Regularly update your security company about any concerns or changes in your property's security requirements.
Atlas Security urges all residents to remain vigilant and proactive in securing their homes. If you notice any suspicious activity in your area, contact Atlas Security or SAPS immediately.
