Swift Response Leads to Arrests after Repeated Cable Theft in Uitenhage

Persistent infrastructure theft will not be tolerated.
Atlas Security successfully assisted in the arrest of two suspects following repeated incidents of cable theft and damage to critical infrastructure near the railway line in the Uitenhage area.
Information was initially received via social media where videos and reports confirmed multiple males actively stealing cables near the Uitenhage Train Station railway line.
In the early hours of the morning, while conducting routine patrols, our armed response officers observed a large bushfire near the railway station.
During further investigation, SAPS confirmed that the same suspects had returned and were busy with cable theft. A coordinated response involving our armed response team and SAPS.
Later that day, it was confirmed that the suspects had once again returned to dig up cables near the power station. Armed response officer Bravo 49 responded immediately. One suspect ran towards Bravo 49 and was successfully apprehended on scene.
While securing the suspect, members of the public alerted Bravo 49 to a second suspect hiding in a nearby tree. Acting swiftly, Bravo 49 located and apprehended the second suspect, securing both individuals on scene.
SAPS members attended the scene and a case was formally opened for theft and damage to infrastructure.
This arrest reinforces an important reality. Criminals targeting essential infrastructure may persist, but they cannot outrun vigilance, intelligence and decisive response.

February 2026 saw Atlas Security respond to 378 incidents across Nelson Mandela Bay, reflecting a notable increase on the 258 incidents recorded in January. Theft-related crimes remained the dominant crime, while medical emergencies and burglaries also featured prominently. Despite the higher incident volume, our teams effected 27 arrests during the month, with all suspects handed over to SAPS.

Between 8 and 15 February 2026, Atlas Security responded to 110 incidents across Nelson Mandela Bay, excluding CCTV-generated alerts. This reflects a 20.9 percent increase compared to the previous reporting period, where 91 incidents were recorded.
