Crime Snapshot: September in Nelson Mandela Bay
Crime

As spring began in Nelson Mandela Bay, Atlas Security’s teams were kept busy across the city. Our control room processed hundreds of incident signals throughout September, with 458 confirmed cases.
While that number may sound high, it actually reflects a 2.6% decrease in overall incidents compared to August, a positive sign that our collective vigilance is making an impact.
What Types of Incidents Dominated
Theft remained the most common crime, with 133 cases reported across the Bay. This was followed by 81 medical emergencies, where our officers were often first on scene to assist. Burglaries and theft attempts made up another significant portion of the month’s activity, while armed robberies, assaults, and trespassing rounded off the list.
Despite these figures, it’s worth noting that 27 incidents led to arrests or the apprehension of suspects, a testament to the speed and coordination of our armed response officers and Rapid Intervention Unit.
Where Crime Was Most Active
The Walmer area topped the list again with 50 incidents, followed by Summerstrand (30) and Central (23). These are key zones for both residential and business activity, and our extensive CCTV network and patrol presence continue to play a major role in curbing crime there.
At the other end of the scale, areas like Kensington, Malabar, Parsons Hill, Lorraine, and Kini Bay each recorded just a single incident in September, a reminder that consistent visibility and community engagement make a real difference.
When It Happened
Mondays proved to be the busiest day of the week, while Monday, 8 September, stood out as the single most active day, with 28 separate incidents recorded. This pattern highlights the importance of staying alert at the start of the week, when criminal activity often spikes after weekends.
Atlas Security’s Ongoing Role
Behind every statistic is a team working around the clock, from our SAIDSA-accredited control room to our largest armed response fleet in Nelson Mandela Bay, all supported by our growing network of over 100 CCTV poles across the city. Every arrest, every recovered vehicle, and every call answered reflects our ongoing commitment to keeping our communities safer.
