Major Arrest: Atlas Security RIU and SAPS Catch Wanted Suspect

Crime

With support from the Despatch Crime Prevention Unit, Atlas Security’s Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU) and SAPS have successfully arrested a suspect wanted for fraud since 2021.

For the past two weeks, our teams had been on the lookout for a green Isuzu bakkie, repeatedly flagged by our advanced CCTV network—especially at Draaifontein Road. This case is a great example of how effective real-time CCTV footage can be in tracking down suspects and supporting active investigations.

The breakthrough came when our Uitenhage area vehicle spotted the suspect’s vehicle near Despatch school. Our team immediately called SAPS for backup. Within minutes, SAPS and our RIU members converged at the address, where the vehicle was parked.

The property owner explained the vehicle was borrowed from a friend, and while SAPS didn’t have a warrant to enter, the suspect eventually walked out. Using a recent photo, officers confirmed his identity and presented the arrest warrant. He surrendered without resistance. When he requested to fetch belongings from the bakkie, a sharp-eyed SAPS officer noticed a firearm, which was safely recovered and confiscated.

The suspect was escorted to Despatch SAPS and then detained at Mount Road SAPS for processing.

This arrest wouldn’t have been possible without seamless teamwork and the power of CCTV technology. A big thank you to everyone involved for your dedication and coordination.
