What began as a routine burglary activation quickly escalated into a high-impact drug bust, exposing a large-scale stash of narcotics hidden within a storage unit in Cotswold.
โ
On the evening of 08 April 2026, Atlas Securityโs Control Room received a burglary signal at a property near Woodpecker Street, in the Cotswold area. Atlas Security Armed Response Officers was dispatched and arrived on scene. While conducting his inspection, our Armed Response Officer noticed the locks to the storage unit had been removed.
โ
As he began checking the unit, he encountered the suspect. Upon engagement, the suspect pleaded with the armed response officer not to enter, attempting to discourage further inspection. Trusting his instinct, Atlas Security Armed Response Officer continued assessing the situation and requested backup. A Senior Armed Response Officer arrived on scene shortly thereafter, where the same explanation was repeated to the Armed Response Officer.
โ
During this time, our Senior Armed Response Officer secured the exit point. It was then that our Atlas Security Armed Response Officer observed the suspect attempting to conceal items in a corner, near a red vehicle parked in front of the unit. On closer inspection, the items appeared to be packets of drugs. When confronted, the suspect attempted to flee using his vehicle.
โ
Swift action by Atlas Security Senior Armed Response Officer, who blocked the exit, prevented the vehicle from leaving. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, jumping over the boundary wall towards the freeway and into the Newton Park direction.
โ
Additional support units and further response teams, were immediately deployed to search the surrounding area.
โ
SAPS members arrived on scene and forcibly gained entry by cutting the locks to access the unit.A substantial quantity of narcotics was discovered and confiscated, including marijuana, cocaine and crystal meth, with an estimated combined street value of approximately R2 million. The suspectโs vehicle was seized on site and impounded as evidence. SAPS forensic teams processed the scene and further follow-up investigations are expected, including engagements with neighbouring units.
โ
Through the vigilance of our Armed Response Officers and additional Atlas Security units, alongside coordinated efforts with SAPS, a significant narcotics operation was disrupted.
