Uitenhage/Kariega resident shaken after flatlet robbery
Crime

A resident awoke to distress on Sunday, 27 April, when an intruder forced his way into a flatlet on Dalton Avenue shortly before dawn. According to the resident, the man vaulted the gate, pushed the unsecured door open with his shoulder, and confronted her while she was still in bed. Holding a knife and attempting to choke her, he grabbed several cellphones and loose coins before fleeing across the road into nearby bush.
The traumatised resident immediately phoned Atlas Security’s control centre for help, and the incident was simultaneously shared on the dedicated Atlas Security WhatsApp group for the area, alerting neighbours and heightening community vigilance.
Atlas Armed Response officers and SAPS units reached the scene within minutes, ensured the resident’s safety, and searched surrounding streets. The suspect, described as wearing a black jacket with green lettering, black pants, red socks, and white shoes, remained at large at the time of reporting, but the investigation is ongoing.
Although physically unharmed, the resident was understandably shaken.
Atlas Security has offered additional security measures and continues to support SAPS in the follow-up inquiry. Atlas Security has praised the resident’s swift call to the control centre and the WhatsApp group’s rapid information-sharing, underscoring the value of community alertness in safeguarding neighbourhoods.
