June 2025 Crime Trends & Insights: What the Numbers Tell Us

Incidents on the Rise


June saw a total of 435 security incidents across our footprint—a slight increase of 1.64% compared to May’s 428 incidents. While the change isn’t dramatic, it serves as an important reminder that vigilance matters, especially as crime patterns can shift from month to month.

Where Did Most Incidents Happen?


The areas most affected during June were:

  • Walmer (44 incidents)
  • Summerstrand (31 incidents)
  • Newton Park, and Bothasrus

What Types of Incidents Are Most Common?


The most frequent incident type was theft, with 133 reported cases. Medical emergencies (84), burglaries (60), theft attempts (54), and burglary attempts (39) also featured prominently. As always, theft remains a major concern, but the diversity of incident types highlights the need for comprehensive security solutions.

Residential vs Commercial Properties


The split between incidents at residential (246) and commercial (189) properties was fairly even, showing that all types of premises face risks and should be proactive with security measures.

Law Enforcement & Arrests


SAPS case numbers were opened in 92 instances. Our teams also played a key role in law enforcement, with 29 arrests made during the month. These outcomes reflect both the effectiveness of rapid response and strong cooperation with the police.

On the Move: Coverage You Can Count On


Atlas Security vehicles traveled a combined 289,906 kilometers in June alone. This level of coverage ensures that our response teams are never far when needed most.

Smart Technology in Action


Our License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras continue to provide a powerful layer of intelligence, reading over 5.8 million license plates and generating 3,845 alerts in June across Nelson Mandela Bay. This technology helps us quickly identify suspicious vehicles and coordinate with law enforcement, often stopping crime before it happens.

Eyes on Every Entry at Moffett Retail Park

January 6, 2026

Atlas Security has strengthened safety at Moffett Retail Park with the installation of a new dedicated CCTV pole, further expanding its investment into crime prevention infrastructure across Nelson Mandela Bay. The newly installed pole is directly linked to Atlas Security’s expanded CCTV Control Room and is equipped with three License Plate Recognition cameras and three high- definition overview cameras. Any wanted or flagged vehicle entering the area is immediately detected, triggering real-time alerts to the Control Room where the necessary operational steps are actioned without delay.
