Continued Intervention, Continued Success: RIU Shuts Down Copper Theft Operation

Another strong result for Atlas Security’s Rapid Intervention Unit, backed by sharp eyes in the Control Room and decisive action from our CCTV desk.

 

The operation began when our CCTV team spotted two males jumping a boundary fence, with one appearing to be armed. What initially looked like a nearby residential complex was quickly identified as a construction site linked to new student accommodation, sharing a boundary wall with the village next door.

 

The Rapid Intervention Unit moved immediately. With support from our Summerstrand area vehicle, the suspects were boxed in from the village side while RIU members entered the construction site. Live CCTV updates guided the team to a white container near the palisade fencing. RIU Unit R02 then spotted the suspects, climbed through a damaged fence, and closed in. Both males were found hiding in bushes near a tree, just metres from the fence. In their possession were stolen copper cables and a replica Taurus gas firearm.

 

During questioning, the suspects admitted they had been dropped off by a grey Volkswagen Up with a black roof. The driver allegedly provided information on the site layout and handed them the gas gun to use for intimidation if confronted.

 

Acting on this information, Atlas teams patrolled Marine Drive and soon spotted the vehicle driving back toward the site. The occupants were stopped and escorted to the police station, where the two detained suspects identified them as the organisers and intended getaway drivers. The occupants later admitted to dropping the suspects at the site, claiming they were unaware of the full plan.

 

The two suspects found on site were arrested. The driver and passenger of the vehicle are now under investigation by detectives.

 

This arrest once again highlights the continued intervention and success of our Rapid Intervention Unit, working seamlessly with our Control Room and CCTV desk. It is this level of coordination, speed, and persistence that continues to disrupt organised crime and protect our communities.
