Continued CCTV Success in Miramar, Walmer Heights & Beyond | Atlas Security

Safety

Back in December 2024, a new CCTV pole was installed at a key point in the Miramar and Walmer Heights area, thanks to a joint effort between the community and Atlas Security. Just a few months later, we’re already seeing clear signs of its success.

In the first quarter of 2025 alone, that single CCTV point recorded over 212,000 vehicle license plate reads, with 58 alerts being raised. These alerts are triggered when a vehicle linked to a crime, or reported as stolen, passes in view of our cameras. Once flagged, Atlas Security’s control centre is notified in real-time, and the appropriate response is immediately actioned, whether it be by our team or the South African Police Service. This kind of rapid alert system helps keep criminal activity at bay and reinforces the safety of the neighbourhood.

But that's not the only technology at work in this area.

On the edge of Beethoven Avenue in Walmer Heights, six smart cameras are also playing a silent but powerful role. These aren’t just regular cameras; they’re equipped with artificial intelligence that can spot human movement, even in the dead of night. When movement is detected, our control centre assesses the situation and dispatches an armed response team if needed. While these actions aren’t always visible to the public, they’ve helped deter intruders and added another important layer to local security.

Over in Pari Park, our License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras on Glendore Road continue to operate as a vital checkpoint. These cameras don’t just protect one street; they create a kind of virtual lockdown for the broader area. Criminals know that passing through these routes could trigger an alert, making it riskier for them to move undetected through the suburbs.

All of these efforts work together to create a smarter, more proactive form of protection. They don’t just help catch criminals; they prevent crime from happening in the first place.

This is what happens when community and technology come together. And it’s a reminder that security isn't just about reacting, it's about staying one step ahead.
