Crime Stats Update: Rising Incidents and Key Trends in Local Crime
Crime

This past week, we responded to 122 incidents across the suburbs—a noticeable increase of nearly 12% compared to the previous week. Theft remains the most common crime, making up over a third of all reported cases. This isn’t just a statistic; it’s a reminder that criminals are always looking for opportunities, and sometimes, we make it easy for them.
One concerning trend we’re seeing is residents leaving their garage doors open, sometimes by accident, sometimes just for convenience. Unfortunately, this is like rolling out a welcome mat for criminals. An open garage is an open invitation, and it can take less than a minute for someone to slip in and grab valuables, bikes, tools, or even gain access to your home.
What can you do?
- Double-check that your garage door is closed and secured every time you leave or come home—even if you’re just popping inside for a minute.
- Consider installing a garage door sensor or a smart alarm system that sends alerts to your phone if the door is left open.
- Make sure valuables aren’t visible or easily accessible from the street.
- If you see something suspicious in your street, report it right away—quick action makes a difference.
While technology and professional security are essential, everyday habits matter just as much. Let’s work together to make our neighbourhood a tougher target for criminals.
