Swift Response Leads to Copper Theft Arrest in Newton Park
Crime

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, 25 March 2025, the Atlas Security Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU) successfully apprehended a suspect attempting to steal copper pipes in CJ Langenhoven Drive, Newton Park.
At approximately 04:45am, while patrolling near the traffic lights by Greenacres Shopping Centre, RIU Officers Bravo 20 and Bravo 81 noticed a drain cover on the centre island that appeared to be tampered with. The suspect initially remained motionless, but as officers prepared to intervene, he voluntarily exited the drain. The stolen copper pipes were recovered.
Atlas Security officers detained the suspect without injury and immediately alerted the SAPS, who arrived on the scene shortly thereafter. SAPS took the suspect into custody, and a case was opened.
