Successful Arrest by Atlas Security’s RIU Team Following Shooting Incident on Marine Drive, Summerstrand
Crime

In a remarkable display of swift action and teamwork, Atlas Security's Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU) played a crucial role in the arrest of a suspect involved in a shooting incident on Marine Drive in Summerstrand last night, .
The incident unfolded near the bus stop on Marine Drive. While patrolling Marine Drive, Atlas Security’s R1 vehicle was flagged down by two individuals seeking urgent assistance. They reported that one of their acquaintances had been shot and the armed suspect had fled towards the back of one of the nearby hotels.
The RIU team quickly gathered details, including the suspect’s clothing description and called for backup from R2. Upon approaching the hotel, the suspect was spotted inside the premises. With assistance from the hotel’s security team, RIU members B148 and B8 gained access and confronted the suspect.
Initially, the individual denied involvement in the shooting and possession of a firearm. However, the RIU’s persistence paid off. With the support of R2 and information from the witnesses, team members Fuso and Daniel detained the suspect while Shane and the R1 officer searched the hotel grounds for evidence.
Their search uncovered a black moon bag containing ammunition, hidden behind a wall. Further investigation led to the discovery of a firearm concealed in a pot plant near where the suspect was first spotted.
The suspect later admitted possession of the firearm but could not provide details about its origin or ownership. All evidence was secured and handed over to law enforcement authorities. Assistance was called from the South African Police Service (SAPS), and promptly arrived on the scene.
Meanwhile, the victim, who had sustained a gunshot wound, was promptly attended to by Atlas Security team members C1 and B6, ensuring he received the necessary medical attention.
This incident highlights the importance of rapid response, thorough investigation, and teamwork in ensuring public safety. Atlas Security is proud of the dedication shown by its RIU team in handling the situation professionally and effectively.
We commend all involved for their commitment to protecting our community and ensuring that justice is served.

Increased Business Break-Ins: Why Active Keyholders Are More Important Than Ever
December 23, 2025
Atlas Security has recently seen a sharp increase in business break-ins, particularly within industrial areas. Factories, warehouses and commercial premises that are closed after hours are increasingly being targeted by opportunistic criminals who know these sites are often quiet and unattended. During several recent incidents, our Control Room has experienced difficulty contacting registered keyholders when alerts are activated. In some instances, phones go unanswered or no keyholder is available to attend site when access is required. This significantly slows the response process and in high-risk incidents, delays increase exposure and risk.
