Sharp Rise in Incidents: Theft Tops Crime Stats in Walmer for 9–15 June 2025

Over the week from 9 to 15 June 2025, Atlas Security responded a total of 127 incidents across Nelson Mandela Bay, a significant and alarming 54.9% increase compared to the 82 incidents reported the previous week.
Theft remains the most prevalent crime, accounting for more than a third of all incidents, with Walmer standing out as the suburb most affected. This sharp rise in reported incidents is concerning and highlights the need for heightened vigilance throughout our community.
Key stats from the week:
- Total incidents: 127 (up 54.9% from last week)
- Most common incident: Theft (47 cases)
- Next highest: Medical emergencies (24), confirmed burglaries (18), theft attempts (10), and vehicle accidents (7)
- Number of Atlas Security arrests: 8
Areas most affected:
- Walmer (28 incidents)
- North End and Greenbushes (6 each)
- Bothasrus and Overbaakens (4 each)
Least affected areas:
Sidwell, Hunters Retreat, and Miramar, each with only one reported incident.
Monday saw the highest number of incidents, showing that crime tends to spike as the week begins.
Atlas Security teams have responded by stepping up patrols in the most affected areas and working closely with both residents and business owners. Several incidents led to arrests, but the spike in criminal activity means we all need to be especially alert.
