June 2026: A Look Back

During June 2026 our control room and response teams responded to 422 incidents across Nelson Mandela Bay and the surrounding areas. This is down from 496 incidents in May 2026, a decrease of 14.9 percent month on month.

The numbers below reflect every call our teams attended through the month, from property-related incidents to medical emergencies and road accidents where our officers were on scene.

Theft remained the most common incident type, with a large share linked to copper piping, cables, and outdoor fittings. Encouragingly, a meaningful portion of theft was stopped before any loss, with our teams responding to 58 attempted theft incidents and 41 attempted burglaries where suspects fled before getting away with anything.

• 235 at residential properties and 187 at commercial properties
• 130 thefts responded to, alongside 58 attempted theft that were disrupted
• 57 burglaries and 41 attempted burglaries attended
• 66 medical calls supported
• 30 road accidents and 7 fires attended where our officers assisted on scene

A closer look at commercial sites

‍

While residential properties still account for the larger share of incidents overall, commercial and business sites made up a bigger portion of our call-outs this month than they did in May, rising from 41 percent to 44 percent of total incidents. Businesses across Nelson Mandela Bay, from retail stores to warehouses and offices, continue to face a mix of theft, burglary attempts, and fire-related risk, often outside of trading hours when premises are unattended.

This is a trend we are watching closely. Business premises carry a different risk profile to homes: higher-value stock, multiple access points, after-hours vulnerability, and, in some cases, staff safety to consider on top of asset protection. It is why our approach for commercial clients goes beyond armed response alone. Layered coverage, CCTV and CCTV monitoring for round-the-clock visibility, access control to manage who comes and goes, and fire detection to catch a problem before it spreads, works together to close the gaps that a single security measure cannot cover on its own.
