July 2026: A Look Back

During July 2026 our control room and response teams responded to 396 incidents across Nelson Mandela Bay and the surrounding areas. This is down from 422 incidents in June 2026, a decrease of 6.2 percent month on month.

The numbers below reflect every call our teams attended through the month, from property-related incidents to medical emergencies and road accidents where our officers were on scene.

Theft remained the most common incident type, much of it linked to copper piping, cables, and outdoor fittings. A meaningful share of theft was stopped before any loss, with our teams responding to 71 attempted theft incidents and 44 attempted burglaries where suspects fled before getting away with anything.

• 200 at residential properties and 196 at commercial properties
• 112 thefts responded to, alongside 71 attempted thefts that were disrupted
• 49 burglaries and 44 attempted burglaries attended
• 43 medical calls supported
• 28 road accidents and 9 fires attended where our officers assisted on scene

A closer look at commercial sites

‍

The trend we flagged last month has continued. Commercial and business call-outs made up 49.5 percent of total incidents in July, up from 44 percent in June, and now sit almost level with residential incidents for the first time this year. Warehouses, retail stores, and offices across Nelson Mandela Bay continue to see theft, burglary attempts, and after-hours risk, often when premises are unattended overnight or over weekends.

This shift is why our commercial packages are built around more than armed response alone. CCTV and CCTV monitoring for round-the-clock visibility, access control to manage who comes and goes, and fire detection to catch a problem early, work together to close gaps that no single measure can cover by itself.

Responding quickly is only part of the job. Our control room continues to lean on a growing network of CCTV cameras across Nelson Mandela Bay, giving our teams more eyes on the ground to spot suspicious activity early and direct response officers straight to where they are needed, whether that's a home or a business.
