On the evening of 21 January 2026, Atlas Security’s Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU) responded to a phone-in reaction reporting shots fired in the Sydenham area.
Armed Response Officers Bravo 140 and Bravo 17 were already on scene alongside SAPS when the incident was reported. The Control Room immediately acknowledged the call and dispatched RIU vehicle R01 without delay.
Our RIU vehicle R01 arrived on scene within minutes, confirming an active SAPS operation and securing the area.
Further investigation revealed that a client linked to positively identified items taken from her premises and proceeded to the police station to formally open a case.
Atlas Security was commended for its rapid response and effective coordination. No injuries were reported during the arrest.
This incident highlights the effectiveness of real-time communication, rapid dispatch and seamless coordination between Atlas Security’s Rapid Intervention Units and SAPS. Through decisive action and operational discipline, the situation was stabilised, evidence was verified and the matter was formally placed before law enforcement.

February 2026 saw Atlas Security respond to 378 incidents across Nelson Mandela Bay, reflecting a notable increase on the 258 incidents recorded in January. Theft-related crimes remained the dominant crime, while medical emergencies and burglaries also featured prominently. Despite the higher incident volume, our teams effected 27 arrests during the month, with all suspects handed over to SAPS.
