From Alarm To Arrest: Teamwork In Action

General

It started with a beam activation on Pickering Street. Our area vehicle arrived to find SAPS already in pursuit of a suspect who had just fled over a fence into the neighbouring property.

With SAPS confirming the suspect was last seen heading toward Worraker Street, our Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU) moved in, gathering a description and photo from SAPS on scene to assist the search.

Minutes later, RIU spotted the suspect on foot near Shirley Street, making his way down 5th Avenue. Staying back and staying sharp, Our RIU called it in and waited for backup before closing the gap.

The suspect bolted down King Edward Street and vaulted into a yard, kicking off a foot chase through multiple properties. He scaled an electric fence and disappeared between yards, and for a moment, contact was lost.

That's when the community stepped up. A resident on 5th Avenue flagged our RIU down, pointing to where the suspect had just gone over their wall. Our armed response officer cleared the yard and found him hiding underneath a parked bus.

The suspect was handed over to SAPS Mount Road Unit for further processing.

A beam activation. A street-level chase. A community that spoke up. This is what it looks like when our teams and SAPS work as one.
