CCTV Leads to Arrest of Three Cable Theft Suspects in Neave Industrial

Crime

Advanced CCTV surveillance and rapid response team played a crucial role in the successful apprehension of three suspects attempting to steal power cables in the Neave Industrial area.

On Friday 21st March at approximately 12:06, a report came in from a client stating that three individuals were seen stealing cables behind a warehouse near Aspen Pharmacare. CCTV operators immediately scanned the area and alerted response teams to the unfolding crime. Within minutes, multiple Atlas Security Armed Response officers and the Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU) were en route to the location, coordinating their approach from different entry points.

Upon arrival, Bravo 125 reported spotting the suspects at the back of Macsteel, near the bush area. However, the individuals had already begun hiding. The CCTV team continued to track their movements, and one of the officers reported seeing a suspect wearing a red shirt and carrying a bag. The suspect was swiftly apprehended, but no stolen cables were found in his possession.

Knowing that there were more suspects involved, the team expanded their search. Bravo 125 discovered that the remaining individuals were hiding in a hole near a railway line, where the power cables ran. Officers Bravo 08 and Bravo 20 moved in, strategically working their way towards the suspects, while Bravo 15 continued providing live updates while observing the CCTV.

The surveillance team spotted two individuals crawling through the grass, attempting to avoid detection. One suspect was wearing an orange/yellow cap, while the other had on a red top. Their location was confirmed near Bedford Road, allowing RIU officers to close in on them.

Within minutes, all three suspects were apprehended. A search of the area revealed they were in possession of a knife, crowbars, a hammer, and a panga, tools commonly used in break-ins. Further inspection uncovered a knee-deep hole where the suspects had attempted to cut and steal fibre wires leading toward Aspen Pharmacare.

Theon-site guard, along with SAPS, arrived to take over the scene. A case was officially opened, and the suspects were handed over to law enforcement.
