CCTV Alert Leads to Cable Theft Arrests in Greenacres

Crime

A swift overnight response by Atlas Security armed response officers and CCTV operators led to the successful arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in municipal cable theft in Greenacres during the early hours of Thursday morning.

At approximately 02:12, Atlas Security’s CCTV Control Room identified suspicious activity in Rochelle Road, Greenacres, after the CCTV operators observed a suspect allegedly tampering with underground electrical infrastructure.

CCTV footage showed the suspect carrying a crowbar before opening a manhole and pulling electrical cables from underground. Minutes later, the same suspect returned with a second suspect where the pair allegedly continued pulling cables from the drain system before attempting to leave the area.

Detailed suspect descriptions and live movement updates were immediately relayed to responding units by the Atlas CCTV team.

Atlas Armed Response units were dispatched to the scene.

Using live CCTV intelligence, our armed response officers tracked the suspects as they moved toward Ring Road. Furthermore, armed response officers successfully blocked the suspects where Bravo 138 effected the arrests with support from armed response officer Bravo 60 and additional responding units.

Upon inspection of the scene, our armed response officers discovered that the suspects had allegedly pulled approximately 15 metres of municipal electrical cable from underground infrastructure.

SAPS were notified during the incident, with SAPS members arriving on scene shortly thereafter.

The suspects were transported by SAPS to the nearest Police Station, where further processing and investigation continued.

Atlas Security commends the professionalism and rapid coordination displayed by the CCTV Control Room operators and responding armed response officers involved in the incident.

The successful arrests once again highlight the value of real-time CCTV intelligence combined with rapid response capabilities in protecting critical infrastructure and the communities we serve.
