A coordinated Atlas Security response led to the successful arrest of a suspect linked to cable theft after suspicious activity was reported in North End.
Atlas Security received a phone-in complaint from a concerned client reporting two suspects tampering with infrastructure along Upper York Road.
The suspects were seen opening drains and removing cables, a clear indication of ongoing cable theft in the area.
The Control Room immediately escalated the incident, dispatching our armed response units to investigate.
Armed Response Officer Bravo 40 was first on scene and confirmed the drain had been tampered with and cables cut.
Further information from the client helped narrow down the suspects’ movements, leading to additional support being deployed.
Armed Response Officer Bravo 20, alongside Armed Response Officer Bravo 81 and Bravo 40, coordinated efforts on the ground identifying individuals matching the description and confirming their involvement through client-provided footage.
The two suspects were located and detained on scene for further investigation.
SAPS immediately responded to the scene. Following on-site investigation and review of footage, the suspect was positively linked to the cable theft and formally arrested by SAPS.
What began as a suspicious report was quickly brought under control through sharp observation, coordinated response and a strong presence on the ground, limiting further damage and ensuring accountability.
