Weekends are usually our busiest periods and while we did see a spike in incidents across the city, especially with businesses being targeted, the real story is how well our teams performed. Despite increased activity, our armed response teams were on fire, securing arrests in areas like Lorraine, Deal Party and Summerstrand.
Earlier this weekend, Atlas Security’s Control Room received a distressed phone call reporting suspected copper cable theft and damage to infrastructure in the Lorraine area. Atlas Security Armed Response Officer Bravo 20, while conducting routine patrols, observed a male walking with a large amount of cables.
The suspect was immediately detained. During a search, our Armed Response Officers discovered a knife and a pair of scissors in his possession, believed to have been used to commit the offence. SAPS were dispatched to the scene and took the suspect into custody.
In another incident, Atlas Security Armed Response Officers responded to suspicious activity in the Deal Party area. In the early hours of the morning Armed Response Officer Bravo 40, while on patrol, noticed three adult males tampering with a manhole.
The armed response officer immediately called for backup. The two suspects were successfully apprehended at the scene, where cables were found partially removed. SAPS members attended the scene. Although no case was opened, this incident highlights the value of proactive patrols, quick thinking and coordinated efforts from our armed response officers.
Additionally, while conducting routine patrols in the Summerstrand area, Atlas Security armed response officers Bravo 55 and Bravo 77 identified suspicious activity that quickly led to an arrest. An Atlas Security armed response officer noticed two individuals attempting to conceal a large television inside a black bag.
The armed response officer immediately requested backup. The suspect, together with the recovered property, was handed over to SAPS for further investigation. A case was subsequently opened.
With a busy festive season, this past weekend severely highlighted the real impact of fast reaction and constant patrols. Our armed response officers responded without hesitation, reinforcing our promise to be there when our community needs us most.
Through vigilance and quick decision-making, Atlas Security continues to play a critical role in preventing crime and protecting our communities.
