Crime

Incident 1: Suspicious Activity at Water Rd

Location: Water Rd, Walmer

Atlas Security received reports via social media of two males jumping out of the property and heading towards Main Rd, Walmer. This information was relayed to two of our response officers, W1 and W2. W1 successfully intercepted and apprehended the suspects near 10th Ave, Main Rd.

Upon further investigation at Water Rd, it was discovered that the property has been vacant and abandoned since 2021. No keyholder was available, and no signs of disturbance were found. As a result, no case was opened.

Incident 2: Attempted Armed Robbery and Arrest at Fernglen Service Station (Astron)

Location: Stella Londt and Ralston, Fernglen

A male suspect entered the store under the pretence of purchasing airtime. The cashier, recognising him from a previous incident, stepped outside, leaving the suspect alone inside. The suspect then proceeded behind the counter in an attempt to steal from the cash register.

The cashier quickly returned, closing the sliding door and trapping the suspect inside. Other employees arrived to assist, and during the struggle, the suspect stabbed one worker in the finger with a screwdriver. Despite this, the employees managed to overpower and detain him until Atlas Security and SAPS arrived.

Incident 3: Damage to Property and Arrest at Engen Garage, Uitenhage Rd, Algoa Park

Location: Engen Garage, Uitenhage Rd

A client activated the panic button, reporting suspects attempting to force open the ATM located outside the premises. A description of the suspects and their vehicle was shared with Atlas Security response teams.

Response officers E1 and E4 stood down at the scene shortly after, and SAPS units intercepted the suspect's silver BMW near New Brighton Police Station.

Three males and one female were escorted back to the Engen Garage. The manager identified the female suspect as the individual who attempted to force open the ATM.

SAPS arrested the female suspect for malicious damage to property, while the three males were released.

Incident 4: Attempted Break-In and Arrest at Business Premises 5th Avenue, Walmer

Location: Business Premises, Walmer

Three suspects gained entry to the property by removing the driveway gate from its rail. However, they were startled by the alarm and the swift arrival of response officers W3 and W4. The suspects attempted to flee, but one was successfully detained, while the other two managed to escape.

The client arrived on-site and requested SAPS assistance.

Increased Business Break-Ins: Why Active Keyholders Are More Important Than Ever

December 23, 2025

Atlas Security has recently seen a sharp increase in business break-ins, particularly within industrial areas. Factories, warehouses and commercial premises that are closed after hours are increasingly being targeted by opportunistic criminals who know these sites are often quiet and unattended. During several recent incidents, our Control Room has experienced difficulty contacting registered keyholders when alerts are activated. In some instances, phones go unanswered or no keyholder is available to attend site when access is required. This significantly slows the response process and in high-risk incidents, delays increase exposure and risk.
