Atlas Security Responds to Sherwood House Robbery

In the early hours of Friday, 12 June 2026, Atlas Security responded to a house robbery in Sherwood, Nelson Mandela Bay, after a panic signal was received shortly before 5am.

Atlas Security's armed response team arrived on scene within minutes of the alarm activation. On arrival, B45 found that burglar bars at the property had been bent open, and B27 made contact with the resident, who was understandably shaken. An elderly family member had sustained an arm injury during the incident, and our control room immediately arranged for medical assistance, with paramedics attending to both residents on site.

It appears that the suspects gained entry to the complex through a pedestrian gate, made their way to the rear of the premises, forced open a bedroom window, and bent the burglar bars to enter the home. A number of items were taken, including a television, cellphones, and goods from the home. Our teams, together with SAPS, located footprints and other evidence around the property, which is now part of an active police investigation. A case has been opened.

Atlas Security worked alongside SAPS throughout the morning, and our priority remained the safety and wellbeing of the residents. We were able to contact a family member to be with them, and our team stayed on site until the residents were supported and the scene was handed over to the authorities.

Safety guidance for residents

Incidents like this are a reminder of the value of being prepared. If you are ever faced with a house robbery, please keep the following in mind:

Press your panic button as soon as it is safe to do so. A panic activation alerts our control room immediately and gets armed response and medical help moving without delay.

Do not resist or confront intruders. Your life and the lives of your loved ones are far more important than any possession. Co-operate and stay as calm as you can.

If possible, move to a safe room or area and stay there until help arrives. Keep your phone or panic remote with you where you can.

After the incident, avoid disturbing the scene. Footprints, dropped items, and other evidence can assist SAPS and our teams in the investigation.

Check your physical security regularly. Ensure burglar bars, gates, windows, and perimeter fencing are in good condition, and report anything that looks tampered with.

Keep your contact details and those of a trusted neighbour or family member up to date with us, so we can reach someone quickly if needed.

Atlas Security would like to commend the residents for activating their panic alarm, which allowed our team to respond rapidly. Our thoughts are with the family as they recover. We remain committed to standing with our community, day and night.

If you have any concerns about your home security or would like to review your response plan, please contact Atlas Security on 0861 585 585.
