Atlas Security Clamps Down on Crime with Nine Arrests in a Single Day

Crime

Sunday, 16 February, was a defining day for crime prevention in Nelson Mandela Bay as Atlas Security showcased its efficiency and expertise by securing nine arrests in a single day. Through rapid armed response, proactive surveillance, and strong client cooperation, our teams ensured that criminals had nowhere to hide.

Here’s how it all went down:

1. Caught on Camera – Trespassing in Sidwell

Atlas Security’s CCTV operators spotted a suspect scaling a business fence in Sidwell. Within moments, armed response officer Bravo 115 was on the scene, swiftly tracking down and detaining the intruder. Thanks to real-time visuals and fast action, the client suffered no losses.

2. Light Thieves Stopped in Their Tracks – Upper Walmer

In Church Road, Walmer, suspects attempted to steal light fittings from a client’s yard. Bravo 4 responded, securing a description of the culprits. Minutes later, Bravo 136 intercepted and detained the two suspects on 9th Avenue, handing them over to SAPS for further investigation.

3. Stolen Goods Recovered – North End

At 08:46 AM, a client’s CCTV feed captured two suspects stealing from their property. Within three minutes, Atlas Security officers tracked them down at the corner of Stockelbach Street and Fettes Road—with the stolen goods still in hand! SAPS arrived shortly after to take them into custody.

4. Backyard Break-In – Fernglen

A security guard heard noises at a Cape Road property and discovered a suspect ripping out an outdoor light. The thief tried to escape over a backyard wall, but the guard and client were already on high alert. Bravo 93 responded swiftly, detaining the suspect at a nearby filling station while SAPS finalized the arrest.

5. Break-In Foiled – Park Drive

Live footage from a client’s CCTV system caught a suspect tampering with cameras and opening a pedestrian gate. The Atlas Security Control Centre immediately relayed the suspect’s description to Bravo 99, who located and detained the intruder at the corner of Rink Street and Park Drive. The quick response highlighted how easily criminals can test security systems—and how quickly Atlas Security shuts them down.

6. Caught in the Act – Cable Theft in Commercial Road

Three suspects thought they could get away with cable theft. They thought wrong. Armed response officers swooped in, arresting the trio before they could disappear. The damage to the cables was significant, but the suspects were stopped before they could cause further disruption.

7. Hijacked Vehicle Recovered – Korsten

After intelligence surfaced about a hijacked vehicle, Atlas Security’s Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU) team sprang into action. Tracking the stolen car to Essex Street, Korsten, the team secured the scene until SAPS arrived. A witness provided key details on the hijacking, aiding the investigation.

8. Fast Action on a Bicycle Theft – Francis Evatt Park

A suspect jumped a McLuckie Road property wall, snatched a mountain bike, and made a run for it. But the domestic worker saw everything and hit the panic button. Bravo 28 arrived in record time, catching the thief just 100 meters away. With SAPS on site, a case was opened immediately.

Increased Business Break-Ins: Why Active Keyholders Are More Important Than Ever

December 23, 2025

Atlas Security has recently seen a sharp increase in business break-ins, particularly within industrial areas. Factories, warehouses and commercial premises that are closed after hours are increasingly being targeted by opportunistic criminals who know these sites are often quiet and unattended. During several recent incidents, our Control Room has experienced difficulty contacting registered keyholders when alerts are activated. In some instances, phones go unanswered or no keyholder is available to attend site when access is required. This significantly slows the response process and in high-risk incidents, delays increase exposure and risk.
