An encouraging week for our response teams

The numbers we are sharing here tell one part of a bigger story. They reflect the incidents Atlas Security responded to across Nelson Mandela Bay, not every crime reported to SAPS or attended by other security companies. With that in mind, this past week was an encouraging one.
Between 22 and 28 June, Atlas Security responded to 91 incidents. The week before, that figure was 111.
So what did it look like on the ground? Theft and attempted theft made up the bulk of it, with 44 of the 91 incidents fallinginto those two categories. Copper piping and cabling were the targets again and again, pulled from geysers, garden taps and boundary fences. Burglaries followed, with 13 confirmed break-ins and another 10 attempts that were stopped before anyone got inside. Our teams also responded to 10 medical calls and 8 vehicle incidents, the reminder that armed response is often the first on the scene when life simply goes sideways.
Summerstrand and Walmer kept our teams busiest this week, with 10 incidents each. If you are in either area, a quick check of your outdoor taps, exposed piping and fence lines goes a long way. Most of what we attended started outside the home, not inside it.
The residential and commercial split was almost even, 49 homes and 42 businesses, so this is a shared story across the Bay.

A quick favour that helps us help you
Over the past few weeks we have noticed more alarm signals being set off by open windows and doors. When this happens, we often cannot reach the client by phone to confirm the cause or take a cancellation, so a vehicle is dispatched and then stood down once everything turns out to be fine. It tends to pick up over weekends in particular. Two small habits make a big difference here. Double-check that windows and doors are properly closed before arming your system, and make sure the contact numbers we have on file are current so we can reach you quickly. It keeps our teams free for the call-outs that really need them.
Thank you for the part you play in it. Keep reporting what looks out of place, keep looking out for the people next door, and we will keep doing the rest.
