A Challenging Start to 2025: Key Insights from Atlas Security
As we usher in the new year, the first two weeks of January 2025 have already painted a vivid picture of the challenges and triumphs we face as a community. Atlas Security has been at the forefront of addressing these challenges, providing rapid responses and unwavering support to the areas we serve.
Concerns Raised by Incident Trends
Between January 1 and January 13, Atlas Security responded to a total of 181 incidents. Here is a breakdown of the most common incidents:
- Theft: 42 incidents
- Attempted Burglary: 31 incidents
- Medical Assistance: 30 incidents
- Positive Burglary: 29 incidents
- Attempted Theft: 17 incidents
The most affected suburbs during this period included Walmer (16 incidents), Central (10 incidents), and North End (7 incidents).
A Glimmer of Positivity
Despite these challenges, there are positive developments to celebrate. Atlas Security’s team successfully made 12 arrests, demonstrating the effectiveness of our proactive measures and commitment to keeping our communities safe.
Additionally, our team responded to 30 medical emergencies, showcasing the versatility of our services beyond crime prevention. However, some of these emergencies were deeply distressing. Over the weekend, our team attended to 4 suicide attempts and one confirmed suicide. These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the mental health challenges many individuals face, especially during the start of a new year.
Seeking Help in Times of Crisis
If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health challenges, it is crucial to seek help. South Africa has resources available to provide support during difficult times. The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) offers a 24-hour helpline for those in need:
- SADAG Helpline: 0800 567 567
Remember, you are not alone, and help is just a call away.
Our Commitment to the Community
At Atlas Security, we remain dedicated to serving and protecting our communities. We urge residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and prioritize safety. Together, we can make our neighborhoods safer and more supportive environments for everyone.
As the year progresses, let’s continue to work together to address these challenges and celebrate the triumphs that showcase the strength and resilience of our community.

Increased Business Break-Ins: Why Active Keyholders Are More Important Than Ever
December 23, 2025
Atlas Security has recently seen a sharp increase in business break-ins, particularly within industrial areas. Factories, warehouses and commercial premises that are closed after hours are increasingly being targeted by opportunistic criminals who know these sites are often quiet and unattended. During several recent incidents, our Control Room has experienced difficulty contacting registered keyholders when alerts are activated. In some instances, phones go unanswered or no keyholder is available to attend site when access is required. This significantly slows the response process and in high-risk incidents, delays increase exposure and risk.
