112 Incidents. 54 Suburbs. One Week Across the Bay

Crime

Across seven days, our control room and response teams responded to 112 positive incidents across 54 suburbs. Residential properties accounted for 60 of those calls, commercial properties for 52. The information reflects the realities of running a metro-wide armed response operation. Some weeks lean quiet. This week did not.

The weekend carried the heaviest load. Saturday 16 May saw 23 incidents, followed by Sunday with 19. Theft and burglary continued to dominate incidents, while three serious robberies, including a house robbery in Fairview and armed robberies in Gqeberha, Central.

Theft and attempted theft combined accounted for 48 of the 112 incidents. Burglaries (positive and attempted) added another 29. Together, that is just under 70 percent of the week.

Summerstrand topped the list with eight incidents, followed by Walmer on seven. Mosel and Lorraine tied on five each. The remaining 44 suburbs each saw between one and four incidents, a spread that underlines just how wide the response footprint runs each week.

What This Tells Us

Crime in the Bay is not concentrated in one place or one time. It moves. It happens in homes and in businesses, in busy suburbs and in quieter ones, on Monday mornings and on Saturday nights. What stays constant is the response. Our control room, technical teams and armed response units worked through 112 separate situations this week, each one with its own circumstances and its own outcome.
